A sweet, smoky, and buttery side dish that’s been passed down through the family — and perfected in the firehouse kitchen. The maple bacon and brown sugar turn plain green beans into a crowd-pleasing, “where’s the recipe?” kind of dish.
Prep Time: 15 minutes (plus overnight marinating)
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 4 cans cut green beans, drained
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 package maple bacon, divided
- 6 slices chopped, uncooked (these cook in the oven with the beans for maximum flavor)
- Remaining slices cooked and chopped for garnish
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, melted
Instructions
Step 1 – Load the Flavor
In a big mixing bowl, combine green beans, brown sugar, garlic salt, soy sauce, melted butter, and the 6 slices of uncooked chopped bacon. Stir it up like you mean it.
Step 2 – Let It Soak
Cover the bowl or transfer to a container with a lid. Park it in the fridge overnight so the flavors get to know each other.
Step 3 – Fire It Up
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the bean mixture into a baking dish and bake uncovered for 40 minutes.
Step 4 – The Big Finish
Pull it from the oven, hit it with the cooked chopped bacon on top, and serve it hot.
